My Health Went to Hell. Here’s How I Healed.

My Health Went to Hell. Here’s How I Healed.

by Madeline Hall

Growing up, I was an active, healthy, happy kid. Fast-forward to college, where I drank, partied, and overworked myself. I’m sure you can guess what happened next. My body threw in the towel, and stress became the fuel that kept me going. Stress seeped into all aspects of my life, severely affecting my physical and emotional health. I developed temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), which causes jaw pain, difficulty chewing, clicking and locking of the jaw, teeth grinding, and difficulty sleeping, which exacerbated the situation. My body wasn’t working due to my unhealthy choices. I was so depleted that I was unable to function and fight off my physical ailments.

Things got even worse when I turned 22. I was diagnosed with a disease called Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), a serious condition in which bacteria from the colon shifts into the small intestine, and causes problems such as excess gas, abdominal bloating, distention, pain, diarrhea, or constipation. Many SIBO patients also experience chronic fatigue, generalized body aches, anxiety, and weight loss. Many SIBO patients with severe bacterial overgrowth also have low levels of vitamins and minerals due to their body’s inability to absorb healthy nutrients, resulting in malnutrition as the bacteria feeds itself instead of feeding you!

SIBO ended up tearing all of the muscles in my stomach, resulting in numerous trips to different doctors and trying several prescriptions that proved unsuccessful in bringing me relief. I kept asking myself, “Is this how I am going to have to live forever? If so, I want to give up.” Then, I met a woman who suggested that I try colon hydrotherapy. Colon cleansing, also called colonic hydrotherapy and colonic irrigation, is promoted for digestive issues such as bloating, colitis, constipation, and indigestion. It is also touted for unrelated conditions, such as arthritis, alcoholism, allergies, lethargy, asthma, and skin conditions. It is a popular complementary treatment, that should be administered under the supervision of a colonic hydrotherapist.

Colonic hydrotherapy ended up changing my life, and now, 2½ years later I am SIBO-free. It did not happen overnight, and it took hard work, but I am cured. What I learned saved my life and enabled me to become happier, healthier, and stronger. While I realize that each body is different, I am inspired to share what I learned about therapeutic remedies and natural medicine, combined with hard work and living a more balanced life.
